Just realized a client's old gelding taught me more about patience than any training video could

After I spent 45 minutes trying to get a proper angle on a tricky quarter crack in his hoof last Tuesday, the owner, Mrs. Ellis, simply said, 'He's not being stubborn, he's just scared of the rasp noise,' and that one quiet comment from her dusty barn in Bakersfield completely changed how I approach every nervous horse now, has anyone else had a client give them a simple tip that flipped a whole job around?

My buddy who trims hooves had a client in Tucson tell him to hum while he works. Sounds silly, but the old guy said it gives the horse a steady sound to focus on instead of the scary tool noises. He swears by it now for jumpy ones.

My grandma always sang to her nervous chickens before collecting eggs, same idea.

What old trick did a client show you that you still use?
