Switched from kerosene forge to propane last month and wish I did it sooner

I been using a kerosene forge for like 8 years cause that's what my mentor used. Always thought propane was for weekend warriors or something. Then I helped a buddy at his shop and his propane forge heated a shoe in half the time. No smoke, no cleaning the nozzle every other day. Picked up a used one for $150 off Craigslist and I'm kicking myself. Anyone else make a switch like this and find it changed their whole rhythm?

Oh man, yeah I went through almost the same thing. Kerosene felt like the "real" way until I borrowed a buddy's propane rig for a weekend. Never looked back. The time you save on cleanup alone is worth it, not to mention how much easier it is to dial in the heat just right.

and the smell alone is worth the switch honestly. I spent a whole season cleaning kerosene residue off of everything in my garage, even my clothes would stink for days after a session. with propane you just turn the valve and go, no priming, no wiping down the burner afterwards, no nothing. plus the way I see it, propane tanks are everywhere so you never really run out of options. just make sure you get yourself a good regulator that can handle the cold weather if you're doing this in winter, the cheap ones freeze up and then you're stuck restarting everything. and yeah dialing in the heat is night and day different, you can actually walk away for a minute without worrying the flame is gonna decide to act up on you.
