Just found out my bank was charging me $12/month for "account maintenance"

I was looking at my statement from last month and noticed this random $12 fee. Called them up and they said it's been on there for 2 years. Nobody ever told me about it when I opened the account. Switched to a credit union this morning. Has anyone else caught fees like this that just sit there quietly?

Yeah go through your statements line by line. I caught a "paper statement fee" that was hiding in plain sight for like a year. Credit unions are way better about this stuff. Did you ask them to refund any of the fees from before?

Feel you on that @wood.zara, it sucks when you realize you've been paying for something dumb for months. I once had a bank charge me $12 a month for "account maintenance" and I didn't notice for almost a year. Most banks will refund it if you push a little, especially if you've been a customer for a while.
