My dryer broke mid-cycle and I found a $5 fix instead of calling a repairman

Last Tuesday my clothes were halfway through drying and the machine just stopped. No sounds, no lights, nothing. I was about to call a repair place but looked up the error code online first. Turns out the thermal fuse was blown. $5 part from a local hardware store, 20 minutes with a screwdriver, and it was running again. Saved me at least $150 in service calls. Has anyone else had luck with simple appliance fixes like this?

Oh yeah, the thermal fuse thing is a classic. My washing machine did the same thing last year. Found a YouTube video that showed exactly where it was and swapped it out for like $7. Felt like a genius. Crazy how often it’s just that one little part.

My buddy Mark had the exact same thing happen with his dryer last month. He almost called a repair guy before I told him to check the thermal fuse first, you know, like @felixw68 mentioned. He found a ten minute video, ordered the part for $6 on Amazon, and had it running again that afternoon. I still give him crap about how he was about to drop $200 on a service call for a six dollar fix. It's wild how many appliance problems just come down to that one little fuse being blown.
