TIL my coworker tried to pay me in vintage comic books for helping with his taxes
Honestly, we were having lunch and he asked for help with his tax forms. Tbh, I gave him some basic tips about deductions for his side gig. Ngl, he got so excited he offered me a box of old comics as payment, saying they're a better investment than stocks. I had to explain that while they might be cool, cash is still king for buying groceries. It was a funny moment that made me realize how differently people view money.

Yeah but @carr.matthew, what if the IRS wants their cut? Good luck putting a comic book value on that tax form lol.

Heard about the guy who paid his dentist with baseball cards? Your coworker's idea doesn't seem so weird now...

Look at it this way, cash just loses value sitting in your wallet or a basic bank account. Those comics could actually be worth more over time if he knows what he has. Plenty of people trade stuff for services and it works out fine, maybe not for milk and bread but for other things. Sometimes a weird trade is way more memorable and useful than another twenty bucks you'll just spend on gas. Why are we so stuck on only using paper money for everything anyway.
