Talked with a wedding planner in Chicago and she said something that stuck with me
She told me half her brides return the centerpieces to the rental company the next day because they just don't care about the flowers after the photos. Made me wonder if we're overthinking arrangements for events where nobody really looks at them after 10pm.

That's an interesting take from her, but I kind of see it the opposite way. People returning the centerpieces doesn't mean they don't care about the flowers, it means they're being practical and maybe they agreed to rent them instead of buying them from the start (which is super common in Chicago). The flowers are part of the overall vibe and photos, sure, but they're also just one piece of a whole night where people are focused on dancing, eating, and talking.
Still, I'd argue that those centerpieces matter a lot for the first few hours when guests are actually sitting at tables and taking in the room, not just when the photographer is there. Even if nobody notices them after 10pm, that's because the party has moved on from the table settings, not because the flowers don't add something real to the early part of the night. It's like saying wedding cakes don't matter because most people don't eat them after midnight, you know?
At the end of the day, the planner's point is valid for some couples, but I think it's more about what the couple wants out of the experience than what guests do with the decor afterwards. Some people genuinely love having fresh flowers as part of the atmosphere, even if they're rented and returned the next day. Not everyone overthinks it, some just want the pretty look for the party.

Isn't it wild how we stress over details that literally vanish before the night's even over?
