I finally stopped overloading my propane tank after 2 years
Kept wondering why my grill ran out mid-service at a block party in Austin. Turned out I was filling it past 80% capacity. A buddy from Texas BBQ Supply told me I was basically choking the regulator. Anyone else make that rookie mistake with their truck setup?

choking the regulator" thats EXACTLY what I was doing. I always thought more propane = more grilling time, period. But a friend of mine who does mobile welding explained it to me. Overfilling makes the liquid propane slosh around and get into the gas line, which messes up the pressure. I never connected that to my regulator acting weird on the trail, but it explains a lot. Switched to a proper 80% stop fill valve and my setup works SO much better now.

I was out there trying to fill my tank like it was a bottomless cup at a diner. It never crossed my mind that liquid propane would just straight up cause problems by sloshing into the gas line. Makes me wonder how many times I messed up my regulator without even realizing it. Did you also find that the grill just randomly sputtered and died before you fixed the issue?
