I was about to toss my old iPod Classic because it wouldn't charge
Turns out, for a decade, I'd been using the wrong FireWire power brick from a different device, and the correct 12V one from my original box brought it right back. Anyone else have a 'wrong charger' story that saved a piece of old tech?

Honestly, I'm the opposite, I just toss the old chargers. It feels like a fire hazard trying to match up old bricks with the wrong voltage. I'd rather keep the memories and let the old tech go.

That whole "wrong charger" thing is a real rabbit hole. It gets weird with old game consoles and handhelds from the 90s. Some of those plugs fit into totally different devices, but the voltage is just close enough that it seems to work for a bit before slowly frying the board. Found a Sega Nomad running on the wrong adapter once, and it was basically cooking itself.
