PSA: Your garage floor needs more than just a quick sweep before you paint it

I see so many people in this group showing off their painted floors, and the paint is already peeling at the edges after a few months. I made the same mistake in my own garage in Akron. I spent a whole weekend last spring putting down that epoxy kit, but I just swept and hosed the concrete. I didn't use the etching solution that came in the box because it looked like a hassle. Big mistake. By winter, salt from the tires made the coating bubble up near the door. The problem is that concrete has a thin layer of dust and sealant from the factory, and paint won't stick to it. You have to really clean it with that acid wash to open up the pores. How do you guys properly prep your floors to make sure the coating lasts?

The owner said it started about a month ago and was getting worse. We pulled the valve covers and found the rocker arms on cylinders 3 and 5 were just loose enough to mess with the valve timing. After we torqued everything back to spec, the idle smoothed right out. Has anyone else seen rocker arm issues cause problems without throwing a DTC?

The stalk bent slowly, then sprung back. It hit me that I was forcing the glass instead of letting it move. The next day, I tried a slower, more patient pull, letting the heat do the work for about 30 seconds longer than usual. The stem came out way more even and strong. Has anyone else had a moment where watching something totally unrelated fixed a technique for you?

I dug up a picture I took of M42 back in 2021 with my old DSLR and a basic lens. The new one from last night, using the same camera but with a borrowed 200mm telescope from a friend in Tucson, is just crazy different. Had a cedar post split right after setting it last Tuesday

I was putting up a six foot privacy fence in a backyard in Springfield, and everything was going smooth. We had the holes dug, concrete mixed, and got the first three posts set and braced. The fourth post was a 4x4 cedar, looked perfect. I drove a nail partway in to hold the brace line, and about ten minutes later I heard this loud crack. The whole thing split right down the middle from that nail hole, maybe an eight inch split. Had to stop everything, pull the post out of the wet concrete before it set, and cut a new one. Lost over an hour of work and a bag of mix. I'm thinking maybe the wood was too dry or I hit a knot. What's your go-to method for bracing posts without risking splits like that?
