Why does nobody talk about the original iPod's hidden diagnostic menu?
My 2004 iPod Classic froze solid last week, but holding the center and menu buttons for 10 seconds brought up a secret test screen that let me reset the drive. Has anyone else found a forgotten hack that actually brought an old gadget back from the dead?

Seriously? Those hidden menus are a total trap. You got lucky this time, but most people just end up making things worse. It's a diagnostic screen for a reason, it's not meant for regular users to poke around in. You could easily wipe your whole library or brick the thing for good. Just take it to a pro or accept that a 20 year old gadget had a good run.

Honestly the real risk is getting lost in those menus. Tbh I found the button combo to force a disk scan once, but like the_spencer said, you can stumble into a full format option real easy. Ngl it saved my photos that time, but it's basically Russian roulette for your data.
