Had the worst day of my teaching career last Wednesday

Three kids got into a fight during my 5th period class, and I had to break it up before security showed up. The principal said I handled it fine, but I keep replaying those 10 seconds in my head. Anyone else ever deal with something like this in a classroom?

That line about replaying those 10 seconds in your head hits hard, I know exactly what you mean. I had a similar moment where I just calmly started giving out a worksheet and told everyone to take a seat, which gave them a second to cool down while I kept my eyes on them. It took a few weeks but the kids eventually saw I wasn't gonna lose my cool and the fights stopped happening around me lol.

Oh man, that worksheet move is genius! I had a similar thing happen where I just started taking attendance really slowly while this kid was winding up, and everyone got so bored waiting that the tension just fizzled out. It’s wild how just refusing to react can break the whole cycle.
