Can we talk about how everyone still treats their rate like a secret?

I saw a post where someone asked for advice on a $5k project and got ten replies asking 'what's your rate?' instead of giving a number first. It just keeps the power with the client. I started putting my day rate right in my initial emails about six months ago and my close rate went up. Anyone else just lead with the number now?

My cousin got a mortgage last year with a rate nobody else could touch. The bank said it was an employee program, but it felt like a backroom deal. Stuff like that makes the whole system seem rigged.
