I finally told my accountant friend about my quarterly tax panic

He said 'You're not saving for taxes, you're just paying a bill late' and it clicked... I've been doing this wrong for three years. How do you guys actually set aside the money without touching it?

Open a separate checking account just for taxes. Every time you get paid, move the tax percentage into that account right away. Honestly, treat it like it's not even your money anymore, because it isn't. I have mine at a different bank so I don't even see the balance when I log in. When the quarterly payment is due, the money is just sitting there waiting.

Yeah, that's exactly how I handle it too, @the_emery.
