Unpopular opinion: I stopped chasing every lead and my income went up.

I tracked my time for a month and found I spent 15 hours a week on calls and proposals for projects that never panned out. I raised my rates by 30% and only responded to referrals, which cut that time down to about 3 hours. Has anyone else found that being less available actually improved their freelance business?

I wasted almost 20 hours last quarter chasing a big fleet account that ghosted me after three meetings. Raising your rates acts like a filter, doesn't it? It keeps the tire-kickers from calling and lets you focus on the clients who already trust your work. Why do we all have to learn that lesson the hard way?

Idk if it's really a filter so much as it's just raising the stakes. The tire kickers were never gonna pay anyway, so you're just speeding up the process of figuring out who's serious. Maybe it's just me but I think 20 hours is a cheap lesson compared to some people who waste months.
