Serious question, I started using homemade wipe-on poly to cut costs and waste. The finish is okay, but application is tricky.

What's in your homemade mix? I ruined a tabletop by applying it too thick once.

Read that adding a little mineral spirits helps avoid a thick, messy coat.

I mean, is a thick coat really that big of a deal? It just means a longer dry time, like stellaadavis found out. People make this stuff sound way harder than it is.
