My uncle told me to put $100 a month into a high-yield savings account

Wait, hold on. That's actually not a great return when you really look at it. A high-yield savings account might give you 4% right now, so on $1,200 that's only about $48 for the whole year. If you had put that same $100 a month into a basic index fund tracking the S&P 500, you'd have closer to $1,250 just from your money going in, plus maybe another $80 or more from market gains last year. The savings account is safe, sure, but it's barely keeping up with prices going up. You're leaving a lot of potential growth on the table for that safety.

I nearly lost my eyebrows quenching a knife yesterday

Wow, talk about a close call! Your workshop almost turned into a barbecue pit. Using oil with a low flash point is like inviting fire to the party. I stick with canola oil too, after my own fiery lesson. It's cheap, easy to find, and doesn't try to burn the place down. Always checking specs now is the smart move, for sure.

Just realized my childhood rock hunts with my sister shaped our bond

Serious dust problem or just regular dust?

I finally began creating clothing for my job that must last through long hours

Sounds about right, the fabric just sitting there judging you from the closet. Cotton twill is basically the patient saint of materials, waiting forever for you to get your act together. It's like that one friend who watches you start and abandon five hobbies in a year. My own half-finished sewing projects are basically a fabric graveyard at this point. The material is always ready to go, but the human spirit is weak and easily distracted by TV.

Serious question, I started using homemade wipe-on poly to cut costs and waste. The finish is okay, but application is tricky.

What's in your homemade mix? I ruined a tabletop by applying it too thick once.
