My new smartwatch kept dropping my phone's calls until I changed one dumb setting

I got a Galaxy Watch 6 last month and for weeks, every call would cut out after about 30 seconds. I reset everything, even swapped the SIM card. Turns out the 'Wi-Fi Calling' feature on the watch was fighting with my phone's own connection. I turned that single watch setting off in the Wearable app, and the calls have been crystal clear ever since. Has anyone else run into a weird conflict like that with a new wearable?

Wait, isn't Wi-Fi calling on the watch supposed to help when your phone signal is bad? I had the exact same fight between my phone and my old Fitbit for texts. The problem wasn't the setting itself, but that both devices were trying to do the same job at the same time and getting confused. It's less about the feature being dumb and more about the software not being smart enough to pick one connection to use. You basically had to choose which device was in charge. Glad you fixed it, but it's annoying we have to play tech detective.

Guess it depends on the brand's software smarts.

Ugh, I feel your pain! My old Galaxy Watch basically did the same thing until I just turned off the automatic call forwarding through the phone's own settings, not even the watch's. It's like you said, both devices start fighting over who gets to handle the call and neither one does it right. A little heads up from the manufacturer would save us all hours of frustration with this stuff.
