Stop reviewing headphones by listening to bass first
I was in a Best Buy last week testing out these $300 Sony over-ears and the guy next to me immediately cranked up some EDM track to check the bass. That drives me nuts because bass is the easiest thing to fake on cheap headphones. You gotta listen to vocals and mids first - if they sound clear and natural on a track like Fleetwood Mac's Dreams, everything else falls into place. Has anyone else noticed reviewers skipping this step or am I the only one who tests like this?

My buddy Mark bought some $200 JBLs after a YouTube guy hyped the bass. First week they sounded awesome, then the mids got all muddy and vocals sounded like garbage. He ended up returning them and getting Sennheisers instead after I made him listen to some Fleetwood Mac first.

...and that's exactly why I never trust headphone hype from YouTube anymore. I fell for something similar a while back with a pair of "studio monitors" that supposedly had punchy bass. First week I felt like a pro, then week two came and everything just sounded like a tin can full of cotton balls. Now I just stick with what sounds good to my ears, not some random dude's sponsored video.
