I tested two ways to start a group chat for my local hiking club

We tried a regular SMS group first, but it got messy with 15 people and random photos. Then I moved us to a Telegram channel with topics, and it cut the noise by like 80%. The key was having separate threads for trip planning, gear talk, and ride shares. Anyone else find a better app for keeping a big chat organized?

Our scout troop had 28 people on a WhatsApp group that was pure chaos. We switched to Discord last year and set up different text channels for meetings, campouts, and fundraising. Honestly, the biggest win was making a "questions" channel that stops the same stuff from getting asked in the main chat every week. It feels way less frantic now.
