Showerthought: I used to write all my forum posts in a big block of text, but switching to short paragraphs with a blank line between them made a huge difference.

Oh man, I was the same way. I thought big blocks looked serious and thorough. Then I posted a huge rant about a movie and got one reply asking me to add some spaces. Tried it with my next post, and suddenly three people actually answered my points. It just makes things so much easier to read.
