It's wild how basic tools haven't really needed an upgrade, lol.

lol my grandpa's old hammer from like 1970 could probably survive a nuclear blast. Meanwhile my new cordless drill started making a sad noise after six months. They just don't make things to last anymore, it's all planned to break so you buy a new one.

My dad's 1983 Craftsman socket wrench set still works perfectly, every single piece. @ninasingh, that article is so right. I bought a modern ratchet from a big box store last year and the release switch jammed after maybe three uses. The old steel feels heavier and the finish doesn't chip like the new coated stuff. It's frustrating because you want to trust what you're buying. They really did build things differently back then.
