Why does nobody talk about the time a bird flew straight through a brand new storefront window?

I just finished installing a 10-foot tempered glass panel at a bakery downtown yesterday, and before I could even pack up my tools, a pigeon flew right into it at full speed. The glass didn't break, but the bird left a perfect, greasy outline of itself, like a cartoon ghost. Has anyone else had a job 'christened' by local wildlife like that?

Man, that greasy ghost outline sounds both awful and kind of perfect. Did you at least get a laugh from the bakery owner, or were they just horrified? I had a seagull do a similar dive-bomb on a freshly cleaned office building once, left a real nasty splat right at eye level.

Oh man, the owner was totally horrified, no laugh at all. See, I feel like a seagull splat is almost natural, you know, part of life. But a perfect butter ghost from a croissant feels like a personal failure, like the pastry itself is mocking you. That greasy stain just sat there, judging everyone who walked by. It's a different kind of insult.
