My barista friend in Seattle mentioned she picks color schemes from coffee shop packaging for her freelance work.
She said looking at the muted browns and cream labels on a bag of single-origin beans gave her a palette for a client's 'artisanal' bakery logo last month, which made me realize inspiration is everywhere if you just stop and look.

Yeah... I read an interview with a designer who said she keeps a folder of photos from her walks. Like cracks in the sidewalk, rust on a pipe, the way light hits a wet street. She pulls color and texture from them for digital projects. It's the same idea... you don't need fancy mood boards when the whole world is one. Just gotta train your eye to see it.

Honestly that idea about training your eye is the real key. I started doing this after reading a book about color theory and now I can't stop looking at stuff differently. Like the way moss grows on an old brick wall has this perfect green with flecks of orange that you'd never think to put together in a palette. Or how the paint peels on a wooden bench in layers of gray and blue and white. It's almost like the world is giving you free design inspiration every single day, you just have to slow down enough to notice it.

Totally, @carter.reese, my camera roll is just full of that stuff now.
