Three years ago I saw a poster in a Portland coffee shop that used a single bold color and a weird font, and I still think about it.
That design broke my usual habit of using safe, clean layouts and made me start collecting photos of street art and old signs for texture ideas, so has anyone else gotten a big push from just one random piece they saw out in the world?

Totally get that. Saw a hand-painted sign for a closed diner once, chipped paint and all, and it changed how I look at fonts now. Sometimes the messy, real world stuff just hits different.

Right there with you, margaret99. My own handwriting is a mess, so I guess I've been into that "lived-in" font style my whole life without knowing it. Something about perfect letters just feels less honest now.

Found a receipt from 1987 in an old book once, the faded ink smudges told a better story than the print ever could.
