inWhy does nobody talk about the real cost of fine-tuning a big model?
Used to chase big models too, until a project like yours showed me the hard truth.

inA retired operator in Mobile showed me a trick with the ladder pump
My uncle was a master welder for forty years, and he always said the new guys with the school training were catching up fast. He felt the real gap was in the math and the blueprints, not just the hand skills. In his shop, the young engineers using the new software could plan a weld sequence he'd never even think of.

inUsed to think those cheap plastic spudgers were a waste of money.
Totally get that. I've left so many little scratches on old camera parts trying to be careful with a metal tool. It feels awful, especially on something you're trying to save. I switched to using old guitar picks for prying open battery doors and small plastic clips. They're stiff enough to get some force but won't mar the surface. What thickness pick do you find works best?

inThree years ago I saw a poster in a Portland coffee shop that used a single bold color and a weird font, and I still think about it.
Right there with you, margaret99. My own handwriting is a mess, so I guess I've been into that "lived-in" font style my whole life without knowing it. Something about perfect letters just feels less honest now.

inShoutout to the old guy who told me to run the ladder pump at 80% on silt
Sometimes the slow way is the fast way in the end, right? Ever notice that with other stuff too?
