Still torn on whether the old timer was right about full vs partial board replacements
A guy named Jerry who has been running crews since the 80s told me last year to never half-ass a subfloor patch, always pull up to the joists. I did a job in Austin where the rot only covered maybe 2 feet, so I cut a neat square and sistered in new blocking underneath. It passed inspection fine, but six months later the owner called about a soft spot right next to my patch. Was Jerry just being paranoid with his full-board rule, or is that really the only safe way to go? Anyone else have a contractor's old-school advice that ended up being either genius or totally overkill?

Six months later is wild, that rot spread way faster than it should've.

Six months later is wild" - yeah @avery629, things fall apart fast once nobody's paying attention.
