After burning my sweet potato fries for the third time, I tried a different trick

Honestly, I was just putting them straight in the basket and they kept coming out dry with black spots. Tbh, I saw a video where someone soaked the cut fries in cold water for 30 minutes first, then patted them super dry. The difference was crazy, they got crispy outside and stayed soft inside. Has anyone else found a simple prep step that totally fixed an air fryer fail for them?

Oh man, the water soak is a total game changer! I do that with regular potato fries too, it pulls out so much starch. Another thing that helps is giving them a really light spray of oil after they're dry, just a tiny bit. My first batch without that step came out like little cardboard sticks.

Yeah @james995, a quick parboil after the soak makes them even crispier.
