Got called out for my torque wrench technique on a Cessna 172

An old head at the hangar saw me using my click-type wrench on a cylinder base nut and said, 'Kid, you're just hearing the click, not feeling the bolt.' He made me put my hand on the head of the wrench while he pulled. I felt the bolt stretch right before the click, something I never noticed before. Now I always do that quick check to make sure I'm getting a real seat. Anyone else have a simple trick that changed how you feel a torque value?

Feeling the bolt stretch" is such a real thing. That old head gave you solid advice. I do the same thing now on critical stuff.

Yeah but you gotta be careful with that. Over-torquing can snap a bolt just as easy.
