Can we talk about how we used to run wire for a whole house alarm back in the day?
I was cleaning out my work van and found a spool of that old 4-conductor red/black/green/yellow cable from a job in 2008, and it hit me that now I just pull a single Cat6 for a wireless panel and it's done in a quarter of the time.

Got a little nostalgic for the old ways sometimes though. That cable was solid, never had to worry about a battery dying on a sensor.

Man, that spool of 4-conductor cable is a whole time capsule. I remember spending an entire day just fishing wire through one tricky wall. Now I'd get fired if a job took that long. My back hurts just looking at the old gear.

Yeah, that "whole day just fishing wire" part hit home. I had a house once where I ran a whole roll of that stuff through a crawlspace that was maybe 18 inches high. Took me from 8 AM to almost dark, and half the time I was just laying on my side trying to get leverage. The old 4-conductor was a total beast to pull too, that thick jacket never wanted to bend around corners. Makes your shoulder ache just thinking about it.
