I used to wire every single sensor with a full loop back to the panel, but now I just use a wireless retrofit kit for old hardwired doors.
It started when a client in a 1970s brick house needed their system updated but didn't want new holes drilled. I put a wireless transmitter in the existing door contact box and saved two hours of fishing wire. Anyone else find these kits worth the extra $30 per door?

Yeah, that "save two hours of fishing wire" part is the real win. I was totally against wireless for years, but avoiding that kind of headache is a game changer.

Used to think the same, but that's what sold me too.

@jade226 nailed it - those first few jobs where you realize you're not fighting with fish tape in a 1970s brick wall are the ones that convert you for good lol. I read somewhere that wireless kits are actually more reliable now than they were five years ago, like the signal interference issues got mostly sorted out. Did a job last week where the homeowner had those old metal frame windows and the transmitter still punched through fine. Honestly, the $30 premium feels like nothing when you factor in not having to patch drywall or crawl through an attic.
