I was at a friend's house for a game night and their alarm panel kept beeping
It was just a low battery alert, but it was going off every 30 seconds for hours. They said they didn't know how to stop it and were just living with the noise. I fixed it in two minutes by opening the panel and swapping the old 9-volt. It hit me that a lot of people just ignore their systems after install. Now, I always show homeowners how to do a simple battery change during the walkthrough, not just the code. I even keep a spare battery in my truck to give them as a freebie. What's one small thing you make sure to teach clients that they always seem to forget?

Always show them how to reset a tripped GFCI outlet. So many service calls are just a bathroom or outdoor plug that needs the button pushed.

My buddy's thermostat was stuck on 80 degrees for a whole winter because the low battery icon was just a tiny square. I finally pointed it out and he had no idea it even had batteries. People just don't look at the manuals for this stuff.
