My friend told me to skip the first 12 episodes of One Piece, and I'm glad I didn't listen.

Honestly, he said the East Blue saga was too slow and to just start at the Arlong Park arc. I watched those first episodes anyway, and they set up Luffy's crew and goals so well. If I had jumped ahead, meeting Nami later wouldn't have hit the same way. Has anyone else gotten advice to skip big parts of a show?

Yeah, the "skip the first 12 episodes" advice is wild. It misses how shows build their own language. Like in Breaking Bad, if you skipped the slow family stuff early on, Walt's later choices wouldn't feel as shocking. You need that baseline to see how far things fall. Skipping is like reading every other chapter of a book.

Ever try to skip the boring parts of a book and then have no clue what's going on?
