Pro tip: subbed vs dubbed for action scenes is not even close
I watched the first season of Attack on Titan dubbed and thought it was fine, but then I tried the subbed version for a fight scene and honestly the grunting and yelling matched the movement way better. The dubbed actors sound like they're reading lines in a booth while the subs feel like the characters are actually there. Anyone else find subs make action anime hit harder or am I just weird about this?

Yeah I read somewhere that the actors record separately for dubs so they never play off each other.

Yeah exactly. I worked on a small indie dub project once and we recorded completely separate, no director even in the room just an engineer hitting play. It's way harder to get the timing right when u can't see the other actor's face.
