TIL tracking down a specific anime reference took me 4 hours of digging
I was watching an old 90s OVA and the main character mentioned a poster on his wall that I just had to ID. I figured it'd be a quick Google image search, but nope. Ended up going through three different forum threads from 2008, a deleted blog post, and finally a wayback machine archive before I found it. Anyone else ever go down a rabbit hole for a background detail that almost nobody cares about?

Four hours seems like a lot for something you could have just made up in your head. I mean, who's really cross-referencing a poster from some 90s OVA to make sure it's real? The fun part is the show itself, not the hidden details nobody else will ever notice. You spent all that time finding a reference that maybe two other people on earth would care about, and now you can't even use the info for anything. Seems like you got out-nerded by a piece of cardboard in a cartoon.

@chen.james is acting like you ruined the show by actually paying attention. Four hours is a lot, sure, but some people just like digging into details. Its not about impressing anyone else, its about being thorough. If the poster was wrong, it would break the immersion for that tiny group of people who notice. You do you, man. Not everything has to be for a big audience.
