Tried watching an old 90s dub I loved as a kid

Pulled up the English dub of Sailor Moon from the DiC era last week. Thought it would be a fun nostalgia trip. Man, it was rough. The cuts they made back then were wild. Whole episodes chopped down. Scenes rearranged so they made no sense. I remembered it being so cool and dramatic. Now it just felt like a weird Saturday morning cartoon with missing pieces. Made me realize how much subs and uncut releases have spoiled me. Anyone else go back to an old favorite and get hit with that harsh reality check?

oh man, try rewatching the old pokemon dub from the 90s. i did that last year and it hit me like a truck. they cut out all the japanese music and replaced it with that weird elevator synth stuff. i remember thinking it was so epic when ash threw a pokeball. now it's just... a guy yelling "i choose you" at a static screen for 20 minutes. my nostalgia was clearly running on a broken VHS tape.

Wait, did they really cut all the original music out? I always figured the weird background tunes were just how the show sounded. I tried rewatching a few episodes a couple years back and that elevator synth stuff killed it for me too. The battle scenes felt flat without the dramatic music from japan. Looking back, I bet half the excitement as a kid came from those tunes pumping us up. Makes you wonder how much of our nostalgia is just built on stuff we didn't notice back then.
