Went to an anime convention and saw a guy arguing with a vending machine for 10 minutes straight

Dude was convinced the machine was judging his waifu pick and kept trying to negotiate with it before his friends finally dragged him away, has anyone else seen weird fights with inanimate objects at cons?

Did the guy actually try to talk to the machine or was he just shouting at it while staring at the coin slot the whole time?

Is it possible the vending machine was actually modded or set up by the con staff as a joke? I've seen some cons have hidden cameras and do prank setups on unsuspecting attendees. Could explain why the guy was so convinced it was responding to him, maybe someone programmed a voice module or motion sensor into it.
