Chatted with a field tech who changed my view on pottery shards

Last week at a site near Flagstaff, I talked to a field tech named Maria who spent 5 years cataloging broken pottery. She told me she can date a site within 50 years just by looking at the rim shape and temper material. It hit different realizing those tiny fragments hold more info than the big structures we usually dig for. Anyone else ever had a conversation that made you see the small stuff differently?

Gotta be careful with that 50 year claim though lol

Six out of ten people I know in my neighborhood have made some wildly confident prediction about housing prices or tech stocks that aged like milk, so I get the caution. @murray.cole, the real pattern I keep seeing is folks treating a random stat as gospel just because it sounds precise, like that 50 year number gets repeated so often it starts feeling like fact. But nobody checks where it came from or if the data even tracks the same thing over that stretch, you know? It's the same way my buddy quotes his car's "true mileage" from a dealer sticker, zero chance that's survived real driving conditions.
