That volunteer-found Roman villa changed how I see amateur archaeology

I thought only experts could make big finds in archaeology. Reading about how a group of people found a Roman villa without formal training showed me that anyone can help. What do you think about folks without training joining digs?

No kidding, that's exactly why these community digs are so good. They prove you don't need a framed degree to spot something important in the dirt. Stories like that really do change what seems possible.

Ever wonder why we act like only people with degrees can spot important stuff? I used to be totally in that camp, thinking you needed formal training to know what you're looking at. But seeing finds from local digs, like that Roman coin a kid found last year, it just clicks. It's not about replacing experts, but more people looking means more chances to find things that get missed otherwise. Stories like that make you realize history isn't just in textbooks, it's literally underfoot where anyone might notice it.
