Vent: My old trowel snapped in half at a dig site near Tucson

I was working on a grid square, carefully scraping back a layer, and the blade just gave out right at the handle. It was a Marshalltown I've had for over ten years, and now I'm stuck trying to finish the day with a backup that feels wrong in my hand. What's a good, sturdy trowel brand that can handle hard-packed desert soil?

A Marshalltown lasting ten years out there is a miracle. That desert soil is brutal on tools. You might want to check out WHS trowels, they're built like tanks.

@wendy205 I gotta disagree a little though. I've had a Marshalltown last almost fifteen years in the same kind of rocky clay out here. Maybe it's less about the brand and more about how often you're cleaning and oiling the blade after each use. But hey, if you're swearing by WHS then I might have to give one a try just to see.

Yeah, that desert soil really does destroy everything.
