My friend said my Milky Way shots looked flat because I never left the city

He told me to drive an hour out to the state park for darker skies, and the difference in star detail was huge. Anyone have a favorite dark sky spot within a two-hour drive?

Honestly, I get amazing shots right from my downtown rooftop. Light pollution is a thing, sure, but a good filter and stacking software can pull out crazy detail. It's more about knowing how to work with what you have. A long drive isn't always the answer.

Funny how that works for everything from stars to sourdough, like @laura940's filter trick. The best gear is sometimes just a tank of gas.

Filters can't replace truly dark skies though.
