Orion photo fuss during game night got awkward fast
I was showing my latest astro shot to friends during game night, and one person insisted it was too pretty to be real. I tried to explain long exposure, but they doubled down, saying it misleads people about what space actually looks like (it was a bit of a mood killer). Do you usually explain the process behind your photos, or just enjoy sharing them as is?

Honestly your friend has a point lol. Those super colorful nebula shots give people the wrong idea about what they'd see through a telescope. It's like thinking the milky way looks like a bright rainbow arch instead of a faint gray smudge. The whole long exposure and editing process basically creates space art, not a real view. Kinda sets folks up for disappointment when they go stargazing for real and see way less.

Saw Yosemite once. Looked way duller than the pics.

Long exposures just collect more light than our eyes can. It's still a real photo, just not what you'd see in a quick glance.
