Rant: My $300 paint gun clogged mid-job on a customer's classic Mustang last Friday

I was spraying the final clear coat on a '69 Mustang in my shop near Akron. Everything was going smooth. Then the gun just started sputtering. Paint came out all pebbly and rough. Had to stop and strip the whole fender back down to bare metal. Lost three hours of work and wasted almost $100 in paint. Turns out the internal passage got clogged with dried hardener from a previous job. I use a cheap aftermarket inline filter now, that would have caught it. But the real issue is I didn't clean the gun thoroughly enough between coats. Has anyone else had this happen with a mid-range HVLP gun?

Honestly, 90% of my life problems come from skipping the boring maintenance stuff. It's like the universe punishes you for being lazy with a $100 paint bill and a ruined Sunday.

Did you manage to save any of the clear coat or was it all a write-off? I feel your pain, I once spent a whole Saturday rebuilding a carburetor on my old truck only to realize I forgot to put the float bowl gasket back in. Had to take the whole thing apart again, covered in gas and swearing at myself. The worst part was finding that dried-up glob of hardener in the nozzle the next morning, staring at me like it was my fault for being lazy.
