Spotted a bunch of new EV repair bays at a dealership in Springfield

I was over at the big Ford dealer in Springfield last week to pick up a part. They've got three new service bays with all the orange high voltage warning signs and special tools laid out. The tech there said they're sending two guys to a 40 hour training next month just for the electric truck body work. It made me wonder how many smaller shops are getting ready for that shift. Are you guys seeing this push for EV repair space where you are?

That 40 hour training just for body work sounds intense.

My local Chevy dealer in Bakersfield just built a whole separate service building with six EV only bays. The manager told me their tool budget for the new electric vans was more than the cost of a lift. It feels like the big dealerships are going all in, but I have not seen any of the independent shops on my street make those changes yet.

Just spent 40 hours learning how to change a high voltage battery. Pretty sure I could get a pilots license in the same time. My shop's tool budget for the whole year might cover the diagnostic computer for one of those new vans. Meanwhile the independent place down the street is still using a screwdriver to pry open my 1995 F150's hood latch. I guess the big guys are betting the farm on electric while the rest of us are still trying to figure out which end of the 10mm socket is up. At this rate my grandkids will be the ones who actually know how to fix these things.
