Pro tip: that fancy mealworm feeder cost me $45 and the starlings ate everything in two days
Bought this expensive tube feeder with special ports to keep out starlings and steller's jays, but the starlings figured out how to perch on the roof and peck at the mealworms through the gaps anyway. Lost the whole $8 bag of dried mealworms in an afternoon and had to toss the feeder because they broke the plastic. Anybody found a feeder that actually keeps those bully birds away or should I just stick to tossing mealworms on the ground?

Honestly I gotta disagree about the starlings being the problem here. You spent $45 on a feeder and $8 on mealworms, that's like 6 trips to Starbucks, not exactly a huge loss. Those tube feeders are a gimmick anyway, birds are smart and they'll find a way if they want the food bad enough. Plus starlings are just doing what birds do, they're not "bully birds" they're just hungry. If you really want to keep them out get a simple platform feeder with a cage around it, cost me $20 at the hardware store and the smaller birds get in fine while the bigger ones cant.

You're right, it's not about the money, it's just frustrating to watch.
