Squirrel-proof feeders are a total scam in my yard
I did a little experiment last week after reading a study from Cornell Lab of Ornithology that said gray squirrels can jump 8 feet vertically. My $45 "squirrel-proof" feeder has a 6 inch baffle on top. Found out the hard way when I caught a squirrel doing a backflip off my fence to land on top of it. Anyone else have luck with a specific brand that actually works on a 6 foot pole?

My buddy Dave spent two months trying to keep squirrels out of his feeder last fall. He bought three different brands including one with a cage around it. The squirrels figured out how to shake the cage until seeds fell out. He finally gave up and just started putting out corn cobs in a separate spot for them. Works better than all those fancy feeders.

Man your buddy Dave went through the whole squirrel saga, same thing happened to my uncle last year. He tried that cage feeder too and those little guys just sat there and rocked it back and forth like it was a carnival ride. It's kind of funny how smart they are when you think about it, even if it's super frustrating when you're the one losing all your birdseed. Dave's solution with the corn cobs is actually pretty smart though, just give them their own food and they leave the rest alone. Maybe he should start a business selling "squirrel peace offerings" or something, I bet he'd make a killing.
