A trip to a Denver deck build changed my mind about composite decking

I walked a 5 year old Trex deck that felt as solid as day one, but the homeowner told me they'd already replaced two boards from some cheap brand, so now I'm wondering if the extra $1,200 upfront is actually worth it for my own patio, has anyone else seen the long term difference in person?
