Shoutout to the neighbor who told me my pergola posts weren't set deep enough
He walked over after I finished pouring concrete and said 'those are gonna shift by spring in our clay soil' - dug em out and went 12 inches deeper into gravel. Anybody else have a random passerby save them from a future disaster?

Man, my buddy poured a whole patio then had some guy knock on his door and tell him it was gonna crack in a month.

Did you actually check if the soil was really clay or just heavy topsoil before you redid it? From what I've seen, a lot of folks over-dig for clay when a good compacted gravel base and proper drainage would've done the trick.
