My stand mixer clutch stripped mid-batch at 2am, biscuits were ruined

I was making a double batch of buttermilk biscuits for a farmers market booth on Saturday. At the last fold, the KitchenAid started making this grinding noise and then just stopped turning. Opened it up and the plastic gear was shredded. I had to finish folding by hand in a cold kitchen with no sleep. Cost me $85 for the metal replacement part and 2 days of waiting. Has anyone else had the plastic gears fail on them? Do I need to worry about the worm gear next?
