inHad a customer yesterday who made me rethink how I quote brake jobs
I read a study once that said like 70% of customers walk into a shop already thinking theyre about to get ripped off, which honestly explains a lot. So giving them that parts and labor breakdown upfront would probably cut way down on the accusations. I saw another shop owner post about how he does that with every estimate now, and his comeback rate went way up. Makes me wonder if we're just shooting ourselves in the foot by keeping it vague.

inShoutout to the guy who told me to season my cast iron in the oven, not on the stovetop
...and I'll be honest, I was one of those stubborn guys who swore by the stovetop method for years. I thought I had it figured out with the thin coat and the slow heating, but every time I cooked bacon, half the seasoning would just peel off like old paint. Finally broke down and tried the oven method after my wife threatened to throw the pan away. Now I tell everyone the same thing - set it and forget it. The even heat makes all the difference, and I don't have to babysit the thing for twenty minutes.

inMy mom told me my dollar store wreaths looked too flat, so I changed everything
Maybe it's just me but I feel like a dollar store wreath is a dollar store wreath. Idk, my wife gets on me about Christmas decorations every year and I just tell her to buy the nice ones if she wants them to look good. At some point you're putting in more effort than the materials are worth. Three different kinds of flowers for a $1.25 wreath seems like you're fighting an uphill battle.

inUsed to rip out old drywall first, now I patch in place
@brookethomas mudding can work fine if the drywall's solid and you use good compound, no rot to worry about.

inFound a hidden layer count in a 1990s municipal sewer plan
Man that's a good one. It's funny how we leave these little time capsules for ourselves and then can't even crack the code. I've got a whole drawer of napkins and scrap paper with what looks like ancient runes on them from my own hand. Half the time I think future me must have been a different person entirely, like some stranger snuck in and doodled cryptic messages. It really makes you wonder how much of our own lives we just forget and never recover.
