My $1200 heat pump water heater is the best and worst money I've spent

I bought it after a huge gas bill last winter, thinking it would cut costs and help the planet. The install was a nightmare because my basement needed extra wiring and a drain line, which cost another $800. Now it runs on a quarter of the energy, but the air it blows out is so cold it makes the whole utility room feel like a fridge. Has anyone else dealt with the weird side effects of these things in an older house?
