Question about the butter at grocery stores lately

I made cookies twice and they were flat and oily. The butter felt too soft, even from the fridge. I looked at the labels and some have extra water. Try a test bake to avoid waste.

Soft butter straight from the fridge means high water content. Look for butter with at least 82% milkfat to avoid oily cookies.

Wait, butter that's soft right out of the fridge? That's CRAZY! @ellis.casey is totally right about the milkfat thing. I can't believe they're adding so much water now. My last batch of cookies was a TOTAL mess because of this. Always check those labels before you bake.

Guess my cookies were a science experiment too?
